Valorfat Demonstrator
The equipment arrived at the Maillard La Bainaise site at Grand Fougeray in July 7th.
It has been operational since September. It is fully automatic and can run 24/7.
Pollutant gas emissions were measured by APAVE (certification body). Compared with using premium fuel, they are reduced by over 40% for NOx (nitrogen oxyde), VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and particles (soot). CO (nitroc oxyde) emissions are 40% higher, whereas virtually no sulphur oxide (SO2) was found.
After a 500-hour endurance phase, analyses were carried out on the engine so as to detect any possible premature wear or fouling problems. The endoscopy (introduction of a camera in the cylinders) and the verification of the injectors were conclusive: the use of animal-fat based biofuel is compatible with Caterpillar Diesel engines. Consequentially, ENERIA, the company which distributes the Caterpillar brand in France, will offer a one-year warranty (parts and labour) on their engines for Valorfat users.
